Our congregation at greeting time.
The
name of the congregation says much about her faith, her history, and
her mission. Faith was organized with the arrival of the Rev. A.S.
Fisher, a missionary in the Evangelical Association, in April 1902, as
First Evangelical Church. The name Faith Evangelical United Brethren
was chosen, through prayer, when the church relocated on the old North
Street extension. The county named Faith Road in honor of the
church.
The first service, held in the Garrigus Laundry Building , on June 1,
1902 , was attended by 32 concerned Christians. After meeting at
several locations, a permanent building was built in 1905 at the corner
of East Taylor and Purdum Streets. The church remained at that location
until 1963, when after much prayer, the First Evangelical United
Brethren Church (the Evangelical Association and the United Brethren
Churches merged in 1946) relocated to their present location at 1518
North Faith Road . In 1968, after the merger that formed the United
Methodist Church , the name was officially changed from Faith
Evangelical United Brethren to the Faith United Methodist Church
.
Faith is a congregation of people who seek to live what their name
implies. Because of what God has done for them through Jesus Christ,
they seek to serve Him by sharing the Good News throughout Kokomo and
the world. They truly believe that “nothing can separate them
from the love of God”. Therefore, through faith they live
their
daily lives trusting His Word that He would provide their needs. They
also believe deeply in missions, particularly in touching those who are
hungry, naked, or in prison. They give freely of their blessings so
that others are fed, clothed and ministered to. |
